Districts are usually safe when nobody runs. Haveman won an easy general election in the bad year of 2008 and was unopposed for re-election in 2010. This is a safe district, although the Ottawa County portion of Holland went for Obama likely due to the large Mexican population there. Jamestown Township outvoted it easily and is an 80%+ GOP stronghold. The new district covers Ottawa County's portion of Holland, Holland Twp, Zeeland, Hudsonville, and Jamestown Twp. It stays the same except that it drops Blendon Twp, making it slightly "less safe", but this is an extremely safe district. It's over 60% McCain in the worst GOP year in West Michigan since probably 1986.
