Old District (98th)
Jim Stamas - Unopposed outside 3rd parties.
This district is a safe district based in Midland. It changes a bit, but the partisanship doesn't change much, maybe slightly more dem. The old district covered Homer, Ingersoll, Midland, and Mt Haley Townships, and the City of Midland, and parts of Saginaw County. The new district drops Mt Haley and Ingersoll Townships, and picks up Lee, Jerome, Lincoln, and Larkin Townships. It also picks up some democrat leaning areas in rural Bay County.
The dems pushed hard in 08 for the old district. It wasn't that close. There's a lot of new territory here for Stamas. I think there's too much Midland for the dems to make a good run downticket, but maybe a Barcia type could with some big numbers out of rural Bay County if he can reduce his losses. I don't see it. Too much population loss in Bay County, and gain in Midland.
