Update 5-27-2012 - VerHeulen's the Mayor of Walker. Maas is on Grandville's City Council. This could be a geographic fight to replace Agema who is now RNC Committeman.
Update 8-30-2012 - VerHeulen won the primary.
Old District (74th)

This is a soon to be open seat. It is another safe district, although significantly altered due to area population growth. The old district was Ottawa County based, but covered Alpine Twp and Grandville in Kent County. The Ottawa County portions of the 74th are in a new 88th District.
The new 74th District keeps Alpine Twp and Grandville, but adds much of the old 73rd district, along with Walker in the 86th. Alpine Twp, Grandville, Walker, Rockford, Cedar Springs, Solon Twp, Algoma Twp, Sparta Twp, and Tyrone Twp. It's a safe district, although Alpine Twp is sometimes competitive. In 2008, Bruce Hawley as a democrat won Cedar Springs and Tyrone Township, something Obama could not do. Hawley lost the district (73rd), but was probably the best candidate the dems had there in years.
This is a safe seat, like most non GRbased Kent county seats.
