Info Post
State House - District 21

2006 Contest
Republican Candidates – Phillip LaJoy (Canton)
Democrat Candidates – Al Sinis (Canton)

Current Rep – Phillip LaJoy (R-Canton)

2004 Results
Phillip LaJoy – 57.68%
Ralph Mayer – 42.32%

Presidential results:
Kerry – 49.11%
Bush – 48.82%

Republican Michigander’s prognosis – Slightly Leans Republican

District covers:
Most of Canton, all of Belleville and Van Buren Township

This would be a tossup district if LaJoy was not an incumbent. Canton is only marginally GOP at best (and moving towards the dems). Van Buren and Belleville solidly lean democrat. 80% of the district is in Canton.

This part of Canton went 52.90% for Bush, as some of the most democrat part is in district 20. Van Buren and Belleville (Unions - close to Metro Airport) both went 56.41% for Kerry making this a 50/50 district that Kerry barely edged Bush in. This could be a sleeper as Granholm’s strong in Western Wayne County, but I suspect the big fight here to be in 2008 when it is an open seat.
