This district covers the most democrat parts of Oakland County. It is nearly identical to the old 15th district except that it drops competitive Southfield Township (Bingham Farms, Franklin) and picks up democrat Madison Heights.
Southfield, Oak Park, Lathrup Village, and Royal Oak Township (not city) have black majorities. Ferndale is the gay capital of Michigan. Huntington Woods and Pleasant Ridge are as liberal as Ann Arbor. Hazel Park is blue collar and democrat. Farmington Hills is rapidly going more and more democrat as its black population increases. It's last GOP state rep was Rocky Raczkowski who last won in 2000.
It would take a perfect storm for a democrat to lose this district.
