LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The state House approved a bill Tuesday that would lower the legal age to hunt deer, elk and bear with firearms in Michigan.

The bill would lower the age requirement from 14 to 12, and require the state Natural Resources Commission to create an apprentice hunting license program.

The bill specifies that a 12- or 13-year-old would have to be accompanied by a parent and could only hunt on private property.
